🌟 Did You Know? One of the Aurora Fossil Museu 🌟 Did You Know?

One of the Aurora Fossil Museum’s most awe-inspiring displays is an 8 ft × 8 ft block of Yorktown clay containing a partially articulated baleen whale—complete with vertebrae and ribs—donated in 2008. This massive specimen, estimated to be 35–40 feet long, was carefully excavated, prepped by staff and volunteers, and now stands as a centerpiece in our Learning Center.

Come see this “Whale of a Challenge” in person—and imagine the power of ancient seas! 🐋

Over 60 years ago, a group of Marines and their fa Over 60 years ago, a group of Marines and their families came together to help a Medal of Honor recipient who couldn’t afford to send his children to college. From that act of generosity, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation was born. Since then, it has supported the children of Marines and Navy corpsmen by providing scholarships, networking opportunities, and mental health resources.

This past week, in celebration of the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday, the Foundation hosted a ceremony in Washington, D.C., recognizing 50 of the 2,886 scholarship recipients. I, Lillian Gonsorcik, daughter of a retired Navy Chief Corpsman who served 25 years, and an employee at the Aurora Fossil Museum, was proud to attend as a scholarship recipient. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with fellow scholars, their families, and the generous donors, board members, and supporters who made it all possible.
